A community altar project created with the help of friends and community members at Oakland Asian Cultural Center. Installed at Oakland Museum of California on October 9th 2015
Excerpt description from OACC website:
"In partnership with the OMCA for their annual Days of the Dead celebrations, they have asked our center to put together a community altar exhibition in order to analyze the ways that diverse cultures approach rituals and remembrances of things passed.
Using our altar contribution to think about the theme of “home left behind, home reconstructed”, we are asking for participants to join lead artists Simon Tran, aka GhostGhostTeeth, and Christina Young in constructing personal “shadow boxes.”
The individual shadow boxes together will make up the entirety of the altar installation as we hope to provide a small glimpse into the collective, yet complex and individually nuanced experience of leaving familiarity and re-creating home. We aim for this project to be a mourning of home lost yet a celebration of home reborn."
